On your first visit to Hamworthy
Osteopathic Clinic, we will take a case history from you. This
includes your personal details (name, address, date of birth
etc), a history of the complaint you are presenting, an outline
of your past medical history and your current state of health.
It will then be necessary to examine you.
In order to do this you will be asked to remove some of your
clothing (leaving underwear on of course). If you are at all
anxious about this, please feel free to bring along a partner or
friend for 'moral support'.
The nature of the examination will vary
according to the complaint, but will usually involve looking at
the function of the affected area and feeling the tissues to
assess their state, e.g. spasm or inflammation. We may examine
an area neurologically and feel the relative mobility and
positions of the joints in detail.
After the examination, we will
discuss our findings with you and will explain our diagnosis. On
the assumption that the condition is suitable for osteopathic
treatment, this will then follow. You will also be given advice
on 'do's and don'ts' and shown exercises, where appropriate. |
